Resumes vanishing into the void? Learn the golden structure, quantified STAR wording, one-page discipline and ATS-friendly layout, plus free online resume tips.
The golden structure
Reverse-chronological, clearly sectioned: contact → objective → experience → projects → education → skills/certs. Put the most role-relevant content in the top half so a recruiter gets it in 10 seconds.
Use STAR and numbers
Describe work with STAR (Situation-Task-Action-Result) and quantify: "cut production time from 2 hours to 15 minutes" beats "responsible for related work". Start with verbs, end with results.
Make it ATS-readable
Many firms use applicant tracking systems. Keep key info out of images/text boxes, avoid fancy columns and icons, use standard headings (e.g. "Experience"), and export as a text-selectable PDF to raise your pass rate.
One page and tailored
Students and early-career folks should fit one page; seniors up to two. Tailor a version per role with matching keywords instead of blasting one resume everywhere.
