When submitting ID or bank-card photos for SIM, bank, onboarding or KYC, how do you watermark and mask them so they stay safe yet still pass review? Here are wording, masking and privacy tips.
Why watermark before you send IDs
For SIM cards, bank applications, onboarding and rentals we often send ID photos to unknown parties. If leaked, they can fuel impersonation and forgery. Adding a "for XX use only" watermark and masking sensitive numbers is the cheapest, most effective self-defense: it doesn't block review, but makes misuse obvious.
Writing a useful watermark
Good watermarks are specific, unique and cover key areas:
- State purpose & party: e.g. "For XX Bank credit-card application only";
- Add a date: e.g. "Valid until 2026-10-16";
- Tile diagonally across the portrait and text so it can't be cropped or edited out;
- Semi-transparent but legible — readable without hiding essential info.
What to redact
Beyond a full watermark, mask these with mosaic/blur:
- The middle digits of card numbers and the CVV;
- The ID number if not required;
- Faces and plates;
- Address and phone contact details.
Redact solidly — opaque color or strong mosaic, not a light blur.
Three steps to a safe image
With 365Lab Watermark: upload or paste → add a "for XX use only" tiled text watermark at the right opacity → mosaic the card number and face → export. Everything runs locally in your browser; images never upload, it works offline, and you can fully erase afterward — ideal for the most sensitive documents.

For compliant ID photos use ID Photo; for strong unique passwords use Password Generator. Making "watermark + redact + strong password" a habit sharply cuts the blast radius of any leak.
